The Latvian gods and deities are more widely represented in the folk songs, beliefs and sayings rather than the folk tales – except for the relationships between Dievs and Velns / Velns and the people that are discussed more thoroughly.
Therefore, the collection should prove falling short in some cases.
Often descriptions of rites are presented barely or no longer referencing the original deity that these rites likely belonged with.
